Party Room Decor 101 ~ Holiday Edition

Hello Thursday! The holiday party season is upon us and yours truly hosted his the past weekend at Chris' place.  We all had a blast at the party but before all that took place, I had fun decorating the party room to complement the design statement I inherited yet still reflect my personal style.  Welcome to Party Room Decor 101 ~ Holiday Edition!

I am usually not a big fan of decorating with red as I find it quite bossy and often dictates the overall color scheme.  So imagine my excitement when the party room has a dominating palette of black and white plus red, "sexy" furnishings from the modern era, and the espresso cabinets that I normally would recommend a quick trip to the spray booth (no offensive to those who love dark brown cabinets).

To embrace the challenge of race car red, I decided to glam up the space with gorgeous amaryllis, mother of pearl + brass candlesticks, mercury glass vases, along with my favourite vintage brass dish from Vintage Find Objects and gem glass dishes by Nate Berkus at Target filled with spiced nuts (recipe from at home: Sarah Style).

As for the table where all the delicious food was served, I started with a grey tablecloth for a simple, neutral backdrop (also to cover those unsightly legs of the table).  Then I added the ornament garlands, a linen runner with gold embroidery, whimsical deer, a trio of gold sparkly wreathes (from the dollar store!), flameless candles at various heights, and lush seasonal greens.  The amazing star shaped cake mastered by Chris was definitely the showstopper at the party!

To tone down the glossy black dining table, I have found the most perfect table runner as the foundation for the drink station.  This polka dot runner from Kate Spade has gold, black, soft pink dots, and its playful nature softens the angular lines from the furnishings.

Of course it's not a Christmas party without the trees (loving these table top version!), a starry sky, my favorite chocolate (especially when Raffaello is dressed in white and red), and sparkly champagne glasses!

Are you hosting a holiday party at your party room? I would love to hear your tips on how to decorate yours!
