One Room Challenge ~ Spring 2016

Hello Monday! One Room Challenge is back and I am blown away by all the design talents with their incredibly chic and stylish transformations.  This twice a year design challenge is hosted by Linda of Calling It Home and since inception, it has showcased over 1,000 makeovers with many of them being featured in international acclaimed publications including this season's media partner: House Beautiful.

For Spring 2016, I have selected my top five favorites.  I don't know about you but I am ready to move into any one of them pronto!  First up is this cozy, chic, and whimsical design studio by Mandy Kellogg Rye of Waiting on Martha.

Mandy calls this a design studio, I call this an elegant and hip home for two with a beautiful mix of timeless classics and pops of whimsical delights! The foyer with its studly console, a pair of upholstered benches with chinoiserie motif + pagoda mirror, and a vibrant hit turquoise from the table lamp leads us to a charming hangout zone outfitted wth a gorgeous settee, a statement coffee table (I would kill for that table), a trio of inspiring bulletin boards, and I LOVE that art by Hayley Mitchell!

Whether you are looking to lounge, to fix up a delicious bite for your power lunch, or to host an intimate dinner party for 6, this studio does it all!  See all I need is a bedroom + bathroom and this fully furnished studio is my dream condo in Atlanta!

Up next is another designer from Atlanta, and Kevin of Thou Swell is a high school student!! In 6 short weeks, this aspiring design fireball has turned his dad's master bedroom into a graphic yet restful getaway.

You all know I love patterns and blue accents (wink at #ProjectChris), so this bedroom by Kevin has naturally caught my eyes.  What I love about his space is his art collection, the sophisticated mid-century accents, and the daring move to paint the ceiling high gloss blue!  The side table vignette is super fun (love that glasses stand) and who doesn't love that full length mirror?

Speaking about transforming your parents' place in 6 weeks, this living room makeover by Claire of Claire Brody Designs is truly night and day! Don't believe me, check out this dramatic chandelier against the freshly painted white walls for a bold contemporary statement.

The room feels so warm and inviting thanks to all the natural wood accents (can you believe that's the same fireplace from the before photo?), the pair of chic vintage chairs dressed in golden yellow velvet, and the tribal vibe from the tan and charcoal area rug.  To keep the room feeling hip and current, Claire opted for a pair of mid-century classic loungers, ultra modern lighting fixtures in matte black to up the cool factor, and her art collection is just beyond! I am obsessed with the black & white lady sketch and that framed abstract painting between the two tall windows.

These super tall windows flood the room with natural light and I love how the photographer captured the essence of this living room with all its refined details and hand-selected accessories.  Great call to raise the drapery panels above the window (and YES to the black drapery hardware) to accentuate the soaring ceiling height and the purple pillows on the loungers add another unexpected element.

If you are looking for inspiration of a light, sumptuous, and welcoming eclectic space, this stunning living room is it!

Heading back to Toronto, Sarah of The Curated House gets me every single time wth her breathtaking transformations (laundry room, family room, kid's room, bathroom) and this main floor makeover is no exception!

Pink Quartz is every where and admittedly I do get a little tired of the delicate blush.  Well, I apparently have spoken too soon because this sofa rocks in this streamlined, sophisticated, and luxurious living room!  It is unusual for me to be speechless but Sarah, where do I start?  The drapery, the upholstered armchair, the geometric pillows, the striking artwork, that masculine sideboard, and Sarah's immaculate styling, I simply want it all!

As if making over the living room wasn't busy enough for this talented designer, Sarah decided to transform her entire first floor including the adjacent dining room and the kitchen.  I am crazy about how light and airy the dining room feels with the iconic ghost chairs, creamy white drapery with a beautiful trim accent, elegant wall panel moulding, and a modern dining table in natural wood to bring us back down on earth in this heavenly dining room.  The bell table obviously scored A+ as I also couldn't resist its beauty for my own holiday challenge.

Of course I was hit hard again by Christine of Christine Dovey with this striking master bedroom in her new forever home.

With her impeccable taste, Christine has curated an eclectic mix of antiques and modern classics (in both art work and furniture pieces) that gives this bedroom an instant age appeal, character, and soul.  It is amazing to see how Christine re-interprets the furniture pieces in her previous home including a pair of loungers from her living room and an art deco console from her foyer now feel like they have always been in this master retreat.

It did take Christine a little longer to complete this room but what a master class on moulding application, wallpaper customization, textile selection, and artist celebration! #Bravo!!
