One Room Challenge Fall 2016 ~ Week 5

Welcome to Week 5 of One Room Challenge Fall 2016.  Can you believe it's reveal time in 7 short days? Most of my must-haves are here and they are looking mighty fine.  As with most reveals with a set deadline, there is always a catch and in my case, the custom built-in is still being made and we will get it just in time for installation and styling before photos to be taken by the talented Stephani Buchman.  Talking about sending chills down the spin ... fingers crossed it will all work out.

On the bright side, look at what I get to play with on Week 5 and you can check out my progress here:

A room isn't completed without character + personality, and I am giving this contemporary kitchen its very own voice through artwork, textiles, and pops of colors!

What is more appropriate than a whimsical and delicious pear in the kitchen other than this super fun print by Alanna Cavanagh?  Perfectly framed in white, this pear is truly a sensation in this lighthearted yet sleek Scandinavian inspired kitchen.

Of course a kitchen can't go without some brilliant recipes and lifestyle books.  I have picked up a few of my favourites from Indigo!

Rug is up next and yes it's totally ok to put a rug in the kitchen to inject additional colors and patterns, not to mention the extra layer of softness and warmth during those winter nights.  I have picked out a couple of options but now I am dreaming the Reflection Light Runner by Paul Smith for The Rug Company available at Avenue Road.

A simple yet refined kitchen needs the most sophisticated accessories and my go-to source is Mjolk.  This incredible lifestyle shop and gallery is truly inspiring with gallery exhibitions showcasing the work of artists and artisans who share the same passion in design principles: functionality, craftsmanship, and timelessness.  This modern store in the Junction is definitely a must-visit when in Toronto.

Here are my top picks for my kitchen makeover:

Styling is surely fun but to make sure I have everything I need for the photoshoot, I did a dry run this week to see if my ideas work.  Here are a couple of snapshots:

No room is completed without fresh blooms (I learned it from Sarah Richardson) and I have turned to my favourite floral studio, Pistil Flowers, for help.  The arrangements at Pistil are breathtaking and who wouldn't want to get these beautiful flowers delivery to their offices or homes every week?  If you would like learn how to learn how to create stunning masterpieces like a pro, check out the workshops at Pistil!

One last item for yours truly to tackle is a DIY art piece to go in the breakfast nook. I have selected these soft, pastel colors from Para Paints:

  • Smarty Pants (P5195-24)
  • Soapy Water (P5223-14D)
  • Peony Pink (P5139-14)
  • P5046-34D
  • P5171-24

Wish me luck on that check out the marble table from BLVD Interiors and the Cord Chairs from Avenue Road! Can't wait to show you the fully completed kitchen of my dreams next week.
