#HDBlogSquad ~ Bathroom Makeover (The Before)

Hello Monday! With winter arriving early in 2017 and our exteriors are now covered by a layer of white fluffy snow, it is time to treat ourselves for a spa-like experience right at home don't you think?  Unlike the other rooms (i.e. bedroom and kitchen) in our homes, a tranquil bathroom is the only space where we can truly forget about our hectic schedule, indulge our senses, and relax our mind, body, and soul.  Now THAT is exactly what this transformation project is all about.

My goal is to create a calm, serene sanctuary at my family home so my Dad can pamper himself after a long day of work: yes the gentlemen need a little "me" time too!  A lot of work needs to be done and here is our utilitarian bathroom:

This bathroom had a cosmetic facelift in the early 2000s where seafoam green and chocolate brown was the go-to palette for everything.  We removed the wallpaper border, installed ceramic floor tiles, and updated vanity light.  Dad also installed a high efficient toilet a couple of years ago.  This practical bathroom doesn't look too bad but it is certainly not the sumptuous, modern retreat I am after.  And if you look closely, you will notice the beige bathtub / sink and the shower tiles are in "vintage condition" from the 70s, the vanity is in rough shape with a split on one of the doors, and the bathtub is way too shallow for a relaxing, restful soak.  I am also not too sure why there is a bulkhead above the bathtub, but this particular design feature significantly reduces the amount of natural light in the tub area.  So bulkhead has got to go!

A fun trip to The Home Depot Canada, where they had all the core essentials (vanity, toilet, tub, power supplies) and a team of experts, had me checking off the key components to help me achieve the bathroom of my dreams.

Of course I also need to replace the faucet and the shower system, as the existing ones are really at its last legs.  I went on The Home Depot Canada website and I was immediately captivated by the contemporary yet elegant Dryden collection.  Its reference to the Art Deco period echoes the wall sconces seamlessly and the bathroom accessories such as towel bar, toilet paper holder, hook simply couldn't be more perfect for a modern, classic bathroom.  Best of all, these collections are available to order online meaning they could be delivered right to your door in a few short days.

With most of the shopping completed and the design game plan locked, the demolition is set to begin.  Join me in a couple of weeks to check out the exciting renovation process, inspiring DIY projects, and of course the full reveal plus my top tips to bring your design visions to life at your own bathroom!
