One Room Challenge Spring 2017 ~ Week 6: REVEAL
Welcome to Week 6 of One Room Challenge Spring 2017 and we are ready for the reveal!! It has been quite a journey to transform my bold and vibrant dining room into a serene yet edgy duo purpose dining / home office that offers an incredible amount of storage without sacrificing style.
It was a difficult decision for me to tackle this makeover as there was really nothing wrong (design-wise) in this dining room. However, one major shortcoming of this space was the lack of stage and I had only one goal in mind when I designed the space 7 years ago: evening entertaining.
Fast forward to 2017, a functional home office is also on the menu in this dining room and its sumptuous little black dress isn't going to cutting it. That is when I realized I need a complete 180 in design direction and re-imagine the room with practical storage / functional office essentials that doesn't scream "office"! In six short weeks, I have accomplished the duo purpose room of my dreams thanks to lots of help from my favourite brands and the heartwarming encouragement from my fellow #OneRoomChallengers over the past 5 weeks.

Well here is how my new dining room looks like now!
To keep the dining room light and airy, I opted for furnishings that are streamlined in design and subdue in palette. The dining table is an unbelievable find from HomeSense that fits the budget + has the right scale (only 41" wide) and it looks very much so like the classic Platner Table (which is too large for my dining room). The glass bubble chandelier from Bocci is dramatic without overpowering the room, and the sophisticated linen drapery (deconstructed stripe by Miles Redd for Schumacher) is so soft and luxurious.
I love love love my dynamite wallpaper (Andromeda) from Calico Wallpaper as the perfect backdrop that truly elevates the look of my bookcase and it makes my cherished collectibles feeling that much more special.
Styling is always fun and for the dining room vignette, I zoomed right into the purple and green palette with my favourite blooms, a faux navy blue shagreen / mirrored tray that sparkles and amplifies the luxe factor, and iridescent plates that are totally hot right now.
AND my second Calico Wallpaper (mist) and the custom credenza are ready to welcome my guests!
The ombre colorway of this wallpaper is soothing yet captivating thanks to its hint of lavender and the sensational grasscloth-like texture. This large scale mural is rather easy to install (I did hire a professional to do the job) and there is no way I could have achieved the same smooth, seamless ombre effect with paint. If you are looking for ways to add personality and texture to your wall, I highly recommend you check out Calico Wallpaper.
The calacatta marble from Brampton Marble and Granite is absolutely remarkable and I love how well the marble complements the white cabinet doors and the natural white oak side panels. My love of circles has led me to this stunning mirror (scored from HomeSense) and a pair of the spectacular Horizon wall sconces from ANONY. To up the sexy factor, I have invited Mr. Bond as my honourable guest to my dinner party and he is outfitted by reference: contemporary.
Of course I have kept my favourite doggie print by Valerie Davide from Trowbridge and what a fresh and sophisticated corner if I may say so myself!
It's time to say hello to the floating cabinet on the adjacent wall and I have partnered it with these super chic (and top quality) round knobs from Lew's Hardware available at Upper Canada Specialty Hardware, a cool + playful print by Luke Edward Hall, a mighty sculptural light from Lightform, a sexy lucite + chrome bar cart from HomeSense, and of course my DIY artwork with all 7 accent colors in this dining room thanks to Para Paints.
Who doesn't love a bar cart for entertaining right? In my case, this three-tier lucite and chrome stunner fits like a glove next to the cabinet and I just love perfectly at home it looks! The bar tool set by Jonathan Adler available from Black Rooster Decor is to die for and so is the lush green vase by Luca Nichetto from Mjolk.
As if doing one makeover isn't challenging enough in 6 short weeks, here is how my dining room looks like dressed as a home office.
Being inspired by the delicate pastel colors popping up everywhere this spring, the daytime look is soft and inviting so I would actually work in this space (instead of just having a cocktail at 10 am).
I don't know about you but I love my morning coffee and an espresso with amaretto at night (somehow evening coffee doesn't keep me up at night), so can you tell how excited I am about my personal gourmet coffee station? FYI, I scored this super chic cappuccino / espresso machine from the infamous HomeSense Prive event. The wood tray with leather handle is from Mjolk.
Now about the desk ... I knew from Day 1 that I don't want to see a "desk" in the dining room. To achieve my goal (and Chris' demand for large surface space for an extra monitor and room for paper work), I have designed a floating cabinet with maximum storage where the middle two doors open up + keyboard tray to pull out for an easy, breezy office space.
Seriously, who doesn't want to work in front of this spectacular wallpaper? I was so inspired that I have created my own DIY artwork over a long weekend! If you have any left over accent paints at home, pick up a canvas and be your own favourite artist. I love that shot of vibrant green and can you believe it all started from this gorgeous Emerald Tray by Jonathan Adler from Black Rooster Decor?
