One Room Challenge Fall 2022 ~ Week 2

Welcome to Week 2 of One Room Challenge Fall 2022, the 10th Anniversary edition! We walked through the truly embarssing “before” foyer and living room at my family home in Week 1, and this week is all about inspirations + my design concepts for the spaces! As mentioned last week, I am also tackling these spaces in secret while Dad spends a few months in Asia. Wish me luck that everything will come together as planned and the reveal … well will be a welcoming surprise to my dad.

I want the spaces to feel light and airy, effortlessly elegant, and can truly stand the test of time. So when I was looking for inspirations and a jumping off point, this super chic living room by Chris Loves Julia via Loloi rug had me at hello with its beautiful mix of classic elements (such as the fireplace and checker rug) with sleek modern furnishings like the lounge chairs + transitional pieces where traditional style oval coffee table and chandelier get a refreshing new look in oil rubbed bronze.

We will also install a faux fireplace, reimagine the lighting plan, and create a warm and cozy living room for everyday hangout by layering textures and patterns. Some of the key elements in the living room includes:

More tips on how to keep cost at bay to come over the next few weeks … think tablecloth turned custom drapery + shop your own home first.

Now let’s chat about the foyer. First impression is always so key (either to greet family / friends or to potential buyers), and I want to create a welcoming, sophisticated entrance to set the tone for the rest of the home. This sensational space created by Nate Berkus & Jeremiah Brent had me at hello years ago. I am still very much in love with the eclectic mix of furnishings for the sense of unexpected + how it looks so sophisticated yet feels relax and causal.

Here is my design board for the foyer with a mix style and materials to create eclectic yet cohesive, layered look.

Key elements to make this foyer extra special include:

I can’t wait to share more progress over the next few weeks, but now I am heading over to week 2 of ORC Fall 2022 and be blown away by all my fellow participants.
