One Room Challenge Fall 2020 ~ Week 2

Welcome to Week 2 of Fall 2020 One Room Challenge! For friends new to Design Maze, my name is Tim Lam and I am an interior decorator based in Toronto Canada. Passionate with streamline contemporary designs and obsessed with one of a kind treasures and artworks from favorite artists, I love creating effortlessly elegant spaces with a twist. This is my 7th One Room Challenge makeover and here are my previous transformations:

kitchen / dining room / guest bedroom / powder room / home office / lounge / bathroom / living room

I love spaces designed by Athena Calderone. They are filled and layered with sumptuous neutrals and natural materials + her signature style on statement lighting / artwork. Her Amagansett bedroom is the perfect inspiration of what I would like achieve in my bedroom makeover.

Before we talk about finishes and share with you my design board, let’s have a look at the BEFORE and AFTER floor plans.

BEFORE (builder-suggested)

A few things I am not crazy about:

  • classic double closets setup with basic storage solution

  • 1 door per closet = hard to reach area = wasted valuable storage space

  • suggested location of the bed is not the most aesthetically pleasing / best of use space

AFTER (my plan)

  • swap bed and closet location because:

    • a queen size bed + 2 decent nightstands fit the spot

    • much larger wall space for maximum storage + a spot for TV if desire

  • the “bed” wall is now the focal point with custom headboard and stunning pendants (more to come on those in the coming weeks)

Here are the images of how the room looked like when we did our walk through prior to us getting the keys to the condo:

The room is decent in size, considering it is the second / guest bedroom in the condo. Bright big window overlooking the balcony and flooding the room with beautiful natural light. We have tackled the electrical plan and media outlet to ensure everything is in placed and available should there is a need of them in the future.

As for the palette and sensibility of a relaxing, calming, and sophisticated bedroom retreat, I am incredibly inspired by these two absolutely breathtaking rooms. The layering of neutrals, the subdued wall texture, the statement furniture and fixture, and the impeccable styling, are the very elements that had my heart screaming “I DO”.

As for my design plan for my sumptuous bedroom, this is what I’ve been cooking up the past few weeks:
