One Room Challenge Fall 2022 ~ Week 7

Welcome to week 7 of One Room Challenge Fall 2022! Can’t believe we have merely 6 days left until the big reveal and boy I don’t even want to think about the to-do list over the next few days + getting photos done for Nov 16! Before I show you the highlights from the past few days, here is a quick recap:

One of the biggest improvements in the living room is having a chandelier, especially when the room used to be lit by only a pair of table lamps. So when it comes searching for a showstopping chandelier, Blueprint Lighting is my go-to shop for beautifully designed and handcrafted fixtures with exceptional quality. For this makeover, I envisioned a fixture that’s sculptural yet elegant, great in scale but not overpowering, and the Pirouette Chandelier is absolutely the fixture of my dreams.

In a beautiful pairing of natural brass and blown satin glass, this chandelier came mainly assembled and since it’s customizable in size and finishes, the chandelier has the exact height we want without having to figure out which rod (or how many) during installation.

Solid in construction yet relatively light weight, it took us less than 30 mins from unboxing to installed. I couldn’t be happier with how the chandelier looks and the presence it brings to the room. If you are looking for a truly unique and one-of-a-kind lighting solution for your home (6 in-house metal finishes or 36 in-house enamel colors), be sure to visit Blueprint lighting.

Another big item off the list this week is area rug. Trying to find the perfect rug with the right dimension + the design you love is no easy task, not to mention getting it in time for One Room Challenge! I was head over heels excited when I found this classic yet very much on trend diamond patterned rug in cream and charcoal from the Chris Loves Julia x Loloi latest Francis collection.

A reminiscence of the timeless parquet flooring, this striking rug is 100% wool + GoodWeave certified, meaning this rug is ethically produced and the making of the rug has supported the weavers’ communities.

I love how the subtle stripe effect on the rug echoes the pinstripes on the drapery and the stripes on the armchair!

Another exciting arrival this week is a custom pillow cover from SWD Studio. Specializes in made-to-order luxurious pillows, SWD Studio offers over 230 different styles in some of the most beautiful and sought-after fabrics in the industry. I have selected Les Touches sand and Boldstroke blush for an extra layering of pattern with a whimsical touch.

After another look around SWD studio, I noticed silk piping could be an option. From 20 piping colors to these final three, which one is your favourite?

It truly felt like Christmas day when the pillow cover arrived in beautiful wrapping with a personal note. The cream silk piping is so luxe. Though subtle in color, the piping frames the pillow brilliantly and makes it pop sitting on the sofa. Thank you SWD Studio for the super rush order!

Remember the amazing EMTEK door hardware we received in week 5? We finally got our handyman back for another visit to have them installed.

I had big dream to turn these bi-fold doors into a set of elegant French doors (especially with that trim detail) with the amazing SELECT Knurled hinge tips and a set of Modern Disc Glass Knobs with modern rectangular rosettes. After taking the doors apart, we realized the existing door frame is so uneven that if we were to go ahead, it would be easier to rip the frame out, prep the opening for the new frame, and then install these doors. This option would require time + a risk of damaging the wallpaper.

The other option would be to keep the existing frame, but we would need to trim the doors to accommodate the uneven opening. This on its own is a major risk as there is no guarantee that once the doors are hung, would the door moulding still read even and straight?

Given the time constraint and risk consideration, we opted to leave the bi-fold doors as is but glam it up with the single Modern Disc Glass Knobs with the modern rectangular rosette in satin brass. I think it looks fabulous on these doors and it is something all of you can easily do right at home!

After painting the front door this sophisticated shade of blue (Mistral from Benjamin Moore), we took it up a notch with the Baden Tubular entry set in flat black. Solidly constructed and easy to install, it certainly is one of the easiest ways to give your front door a fresh new look!

Note: if possible, remove the existing door hardware before you paint the door. It makes the job so much easier, and the result is always perfect. In my case, we painted the door first while awaiting the arrival of our new hardware. Now I will have to do some touch-ups around the hardware for a crisp paint job.

We also have a door between the foyer and the family room. The SELECT L-Square Knurled level with the modern rectangular rosette has instantly elevated the entire look. I have opted for a satin brass + flat black combination to tie in all the material finishes in the room for a consistent, uniform look.

One more item in the work this week is a custom art piece for the living room. I searched everywhere for a piece of artwork that’s sculptural, larger in scale (to fill a wall space by the armchair) and yet calming at the same time. Please say hello to EBB I by Christopher Reyes Design. I love the lime wash look, the tension between the diagonally layered panels and the three-dimensional round object, and best of all Christopher is able to customize the size so it will fit the wall perfectly.

A little sneak peek and behind-the-scenes captures thx to Christopher:

It has been a busy week, but the finish line is in sight! Fingers crossed all the pieces will fall into space and we will have the big reveal in 6 short days. Now it’s time to head over to ORC Week 7 and say hi to all my fellow participants.
