Welcome to Week 7 of One Room Challenge! If you are new friends here, my name is Tim Lam, an interior decorator based in Toronto, Canada. I LOVE streamlined contemporary spaces with a good mix of patterns plus pops of color as accents. There is always a sense of whimsy and an appreciation of natural elements in my projects. For my ORC Spring 2020 journey + more behind the scenes footages, check out my Instagram page.

week 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 + 6

With most of the heavy lifting tasks completed (still crossing my fingers the missing kitchen components will arrive this week), we are down to the finishing touches with numerous projects to bring the space to life. First up, let’s talk about decorative pillows. Mesmerized by Athena’s sumptuous bedroom via Eye Swoon and a handsome living room styled by Colin King, I have been on the lookout of round pillows.

Wasn’t successful in finding the perfect ready-made pillow online, I’ve decided to make my own with the amazing fabrics from Calico and SWD Studio. To make the pillows more versatile to suit different decor needs, I have designed them with two color palettes with a neutral stripe banding (from Tonic Living) acting as divider. Detailed fabric sources are included at the bottom of this post.

From round pillows to ball pillow, I want to have some fun with the feather trim from Trend. I love the soft feathers and how the trim creates dimension + adds a touch of whimsy. Thanks Kara of And Once We Were for spending hours hand stitched 23 yards of trim onto her boucle ball pillow.

Art work is next.

After we finished the wallpaper installation, the art piece are ready to get back on the wall. I shared with you my trick on how to recreate the gallery wall with a few simple measurements last week, and I am thrilled to report back that it totally worked! The pieces went back on the wall without any extra holes and I am loving it!

One last piece is still with framer and it will be ready for the reveal. The gallery wall is curated via minted + my favorite local artist, Alanna Cavanagh.

Speaking about amazing artisans, I am beyond excited to work with Jill Rosenwald for a truly one of a kind masterpiece. Fully customizable from colors and patterns to shapes and sizes, this Boston based woman-operated studio handcrafts each piece of pottery + meticulously paints the pattern to order. I fell in love with the Slim Keith vase in mink, and Jill’s team has made my dream comes true!

From US talents to Canadian friends, I am honored to partner with SWD Studios on a pair of sensational pillows dressed in my all time favorite fabrics: Kelly Wearstler Graffito Linen / Onyx and Pierre Frey Kubus Argent. Here is a sneak peek of this fabulous pillow in action … and yes, I have made my pillows with the different front / back designs.

Another fabric I absolutely love is this handsome pinstripe in cream and grey from Tonic Living. The sheer nature of the fabric keeps it looking / feeling light and airy, while the polyester / cotton blend helps the fabric to withstand the sun (less discoloring over time). I have used this pinstripe fabric as drapery in the lounge last fall, and I simply have to use it again in my living room. From shower curtain in the bathroom to euro shams / lumbar pillows in the bedroom, I am already brainstorming for its next application!

From window treatment to floor covering, the sophisticated and luxurious Tile rug from Couristan had my heart skipped a beat. Handcrafted in India, each hide rug is unique and the felt backing keeps this quality rug in top shape for years to come. I of course was floored by the ivory and grey colorway, and I can’t wait to put it in place and share it with you all next week!

We of course need some decorative accessories to finish the room. After months of closure, Toronto is finally on phase 1 of reopening. HomeSense is one of my all time favorite stores to find incredible items at very reasonable prices. So when I heard some of my favorite locations have reopened, I headed right over and scored these luxe designer treasures perfect for my living room!

That’s it for Week 7 progress, and I will leave you with a couple of teasers of what to come for the reveal!
