Today I am sharing some of my favorite finishing touches and to kick start with a DIY artwork for the bedroom. I have been obsessed with these textured plaster walls for the effortlessly elegant + organic yet sophisticated appeal. Keeping resale in mind, I have opted grasscloth as wall coverings instead to ensure the condo will appeal to most people.

Well as many of you know, once I have an idea stuck in my head, I generally will find a way to achieve it! This is when this last minute DIY art project comes in. I picked up a fantastic stretched and primed artist canvas at HomeSense and some craft supplies from Curry’s (the texture medium) and Michaels (paint and texture tool).

The project is actually rather easy. Here are my steps:

  1. painted the canvas with a base color (creamy white in my case)

  2. tape (block) off area where you don’t want to texture medium ~ to create a design / pattern

  3. mixing texture medium with paint (Note: this texture medium dries clear so it’s a little tricky to tell the exact color you will get at the end)

  4. apply a thick coat of mixture directly on the canvas and quickly use the texture tool to create the pattern

  5. wait for mixture to dry, repeat step 4 if required

I actually did a white wash on the entire canvas after step 4-5 and then repeated step 4 to give the piece with extra texture. Here is how it looks as we try to establish its placement on the wall. I couldn’t be happier with the subtle texture and how it adds another layer of interests in the room without overpowering the space.

Now let’s talk about the pendants by the bedside tables. I know I want a fixture with a shapely silhouette, has its own character and partners well with the cloud chandelier. My heart skipped a beat when I came across the stunning Oxford Double Pendant from Original BTC. Its double shades are made with bone china with a gorgeous diamond pattern + the elegant satin brass stem and detailing are just divine. It casts a warm gentle glow at night and adds that extra touch of luxury to the room.
